Like most modern manufacturers, Opel / Vauxhall have introduced security measures to prevent unauthorised programming of modules in the car or for theft protection. The method of protection is a 4 digit security code which is found on the car pass which looks like

When working on Opel / Vauxhall cars, there are several reasons why you would need to know the Security Code of the car or just the individual part in front of you.
Garages are often presented with a car where the customer doesn’t have the car pass and the security code is needed in order to complete the works. The garage can either turn the job away, or obtain the security code from Vauxhall, which needs the owner’s V5C proof of ownership document and can cost up to £40 a time.
Other times a garage may just need the Security Code of an individual part as it will be used to replace a faulty one or to upgrade the vehicle.
Introducing Pecky’s Vauxhall Decoder
I have created a piece of software which will tell you the code for parts which have not been divorced prior to removal from the donor car.
Within the parts themselves, there is usually an EEPROM, which is a small chip which holds the settings information and the all important Security Code. If you can read the contents of the EEPROM, it can simply be loaded into Pecky’s Vauxhall Decoder and it will decypher the Security Code and the part information.
Once the code is known, the part can be reset using Tech2 and programmed to a new vehicle, or you can use the security code with your diagnostic tool to recover the full car pass information.
The software also includes a mileage correction calculator so you can correct mileage of selected vehicles.
In order to use the software, an eeprom programmer is required as the contents of the eeprom is loaded into the software.
